January 2020 Show & Tell

Preschool/Kindergarten January EQ Show & Tell
Thursday & Friday, January 30th & 31st

“My Favorite Story…”

Reading and telling stories allows children to relate to others more easily, to understand another’s perspective, and also creates an emotional bond between the storyteller and the listener.  As an added bonus, reading stories also reinforces an appreciation for literacy and literature!

In conjunction with our “Favorite Authors, Composers, Scientists, Explorers & Artists” theme, we invite every child to bring in their favorite story to share on our EQ Show & Tell days (we will not schedule parents to read on these two days).

January 2020 Theme & Calendar

Our January Theme:
Favorite Authors, Composers, Scientists, Explorers & Artists

This theme is back by popular demand!  Our Specialists and Class Teachers will choose their favorites from among famous writers, poets, scientists, explorers, sculptors, painters and musicians… Their gifts of knowledge, discoveries & creations are the best of mankind.  And now, they can inspire our lesson plans, and our children!  Perhaps we will explore genres of expression or ideas that led to discoveries.  Perhaps we can try our hands at creating our own masterpieces or finding out how something works… our imagination has no limits!

Our January calendar is below. Click on the image for a printable PDF!

December 2019 Show & Tell

Preschool/Kindergarten December EQ Show & Tell
Thursday & Friday, December 19th & 20th

“My favorite holiday tradition…”

This month, our EQ Show & Tell will focus on favorite family holiday traditions.  This will bring our investigations of “Holidays at Home” full circle as we reflect on our own personal experiences.  This sharing also enhances each child’s self-esteem and affirms individual self-concept.

You and your child can select a special tradition to share with classmates that represents the spirit of the holiday your family celebrates.  Please feel free to send in photos, drawings, or anything else that depicts what makes this time special for your family.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Wednesday, November 27th

Please mark your calendar and sign up for a Parent-Teacher “getting acquainted” Conference (invitations to our “Sign-Up Genius” will be sent out today).  Our fall conference gives you an opportunity to chat with your child’s teachers, share information, and get to know one another.  You will also be introduced to our Profile and Portfolio process.  Our Kinder Works Standards and Curriculum Guides will be available, as always, for you to review.

You will receive a copy of your child’s Profile prior to conference time.  This is a record of observations of his or her development here at school.  We look forward to seeing you at your conference!

*Please note that Wednesday, November 27th is not a regular school day; there will be no classes held on this day.*

Preschool/Kindergarten  EQ Show & Tell

“Practicing Self-Calming Skills”

It’s that time of year again… the perfect time to practice our self calming skills… With each night falling earlier, and Halloween decorations like jack-o-lanterns, spiders, and skeletons, it can be a scary time of year for little ones.  It’s important to teach self-calming skills so children can reassure themselves amidst all the excitement and change.

A child may find comfort in a stuffed toy, a ‘lovey’ blanket, a song or memory or thought, taking a deep breath, a hug from Mom or Dad, a favorite activity, going outside…

Please send your child to school ready to share, or demonstrate how they find comfort and calm.  Maybe another child finds reassurance in the same way, so feelings are validated and relationships are strengthened in this EQ (Social Emotional Learning, or “SEL”) opportunity.
