Our December Theme:
The Polar Express
All aboard! The Polar Express is stopping at the Kinder Works Station this year! It’s going to take us around the world, to see how the Winter Holidays are celebrated in other countries!
First stop: Germany, where we find many traditions such as advent wreaths, advent calendars, letters to Weihnachtsmann (Santa), hiding the Christmas Tree, Springerle molds, etc. And then there’s St. Nicholas Day with shoes left at doors and filled with straw for horses! St. Nicholas checks to see if children have behaved well, then fills the shoes with treats…
Onwards we go to: England, where we find the first Christmas cards, the tradition of caroling, hanging stockings by the chimney, the use of holly and mistletoe, Christmas crackers and pudding…
…Back on the train for home: U.S.A.! We will learn about Hanukkah, have fun with the elf on the shelf, candy canes, Christmas trees, and more. Our own Kinder Works classmates can introduce us to multi-cultural traditions as they tell how they celebrate the Holidays at home.
Kinder Works celebrates with two annual traditions at this time of year: The Giving Tree, and Santa visits!
