“Invent Your Own Symbol”
We communicate in so many ways: through language, dance, music and art, but mostly through the use of symbols. People use symbols, both auditory (the spoken word) and visual (drawing & writing) to represent things, thoughts and feelings. In West Africa, people have used ancient visual symbols, called Adinkra, to convey meaning.
Recently, new symbols have been invented and used all over the world; these are small digital images or icons used to express an idea, emotion, etc., in electronic communication. We call these Emojis!
For Show and Tell, we are challenging your family to invent a symbol with a special meaning for you. Perhaps there is a symbol already in Adinkra, or an Emoji that conveys the same meaning you choose. Maybe you will create a brand new one, or use combinations in a unique way.
Draw your symbol(s) on the paper provided to you, and your child can then share it with his/her class. Then… watch what we do with it in Creative Expression!
Receipts From our Fiscal Department
Kinder Works is happy to email or mail tuition payment receipts upon request. If you would like a receipt for 2017 year-end taxes, dependent care, or any other purpose, please email us at email@example.com. Be sure to include your child’s name and with which Kinder Works you are affiliated.
Please be advised that requests could take up to 2 weeks to process; our year-end figures are completed by mid-February. Your school’s EIN number is given in your Parent Handbook and on all receipts.
Please note that our school Directors do not have access to your fiscal information, and all such inquiries and requests should go directly to our Fiscal Office. Thank you!
Foul Weather Procedures
Kinder Works usually follows Spring-Ford Area School District closings, which are announced on major radio and news stations. (The closing number for Spring-Ford is 308.) Delays and closings will be emailed and mass-texted.
For a 1 hour delay, Kinder Works will open at 8:00 AM. For a 2 hour delay, Kinder Works will open at 9:00 AM. Should the school need to close in the middle of the day, Kinder Works will send an email and mass text message to our families. If there is an emergency that requires us to move the children from the school, we will include the alternate pick-up location.
If Kinder Works is going to deviate from the above procedure, you will receive an email, mass text, and/or phone call specifying our actions.
A Note About Outside Play
We go outside to play, even in the Winter! We stay healthy by getting natural sunlight through our eyes and a little on our faces, not to mention the benefits of breathing fresh air. Please be sure that your children come to Kinder Works dressed for the weather, wearing hats, gloves, etc. Also, please clearly label all coats, hats, mittens, and extra clothes with your child’s name. Of course, if it is too cold, we stay indoors for musical and physical fun. Thank you!
Our January Theme:
Heading South for the Winter: African Escapes
It may be cold outside, but in Africa it is tropical. It is summer there right now!
We’ll see elephants, giraffes, zebras, and more birds than we can count! We’ll encounter thick forests and high mountains, huge river basins and island volcanoes… great valleys and enormous deserts. There are lakes that come and go, and the strange and storied baobab tree that seems to live forever.
The people of Africa have diverse cultural traditions, including amazing artworks, creative games, interesting recipes and products, fascinating stories and songs, music, dances and costumes, and a wide variety of architecture. They have invented different methods for counting, writing, and speaking, too. From Egypt to Kalahari, this country astride the equator will be fascinating in each of our curriculum areas!
